The many uses for Barnboard
Barnboard has grown in popularity in the last few years due to its rough natural appearance and its versatility to make a statement in any application and not to mention it is a green, recycled material! Paired with high gloss cabinetry or chrome finishes to create the perfect juxtaposition of modern and rustic.
Here are just some of the many ways to incorporate barnboard into your interior...
Clad your kitchen island
Using barnboard in a kitchen setting may be a challenge if the wood is not sealed properly. By cladding the back of an island not only is there no worry of food messes but it creates a beautiful statement and focal point, especially laying the planks in a horizontal pattern as Sarah Richardson has done in this stunning kitchen.
Clad a feature wall
One of the main reasons barnboard is so highly sought after is because of its unique quality and by cladding a wall in your space, whether being behind a fireplace or the wall behind you bed, it is bound to create a wow factor and draw your eye in that direction.
Rustic barnboard furniture
Rustic reclaimed mantles to barnboard tables, using rustic furniture pieces incorporated into interiors gives a natural, earthy feel. By using the recycled barnboard not only are you creating beautiful furniture pieces but also saving yourself money by reusing this old wood!
Reclaimed beams and cladded ceilings
Rustic reclaimed beams broken up by planks of barnboard is just another method to create a rustic retreat. Adding reclaimed beams to a modern design gives interest to an otherwise plain aspect of the room and utilizes natural materials.

River Home Finishes
This soft, warm grey palette was just what we were after in my client's custom home build, located on the river in Paris, Ontario. These finishes have the perfect elements to designing a modern/ rugged interior with the handscraped hardwood plank flooring, hexagon carrara marble shower floor mosaic, classic polished white subway tile and the textured subway tile flooring.

Decorating with yellow!
Adding a pop of vibrant citrus yellow to any space is one of my favorite designer musts! Yellow accessories featured in a backdrop of neutral tones, especially gray tones, create a perfect contrast.
Here is how you can create this look...

Industrial Loft
When describing the idea of a loft, the images that come to mind are large open spaces with exposed piping and large expansive window lines. Typically we see strictly man-made materials, concrete and clean lines.
This exquisite Barcelona loft crafted with innovation by Estudio Egue Y Seta, has all of these features but is able to make the space feel warm, inviting and grounded by using soft natural greenery and gives a whole new look to a modern loft.
The walls are clad with a wall oak wood with hints of exposed red brick which create a soft backdrop to the natural greenery. The sunken living room, with built-in bench seats, and large glass walls gives the sight lines from room to room an easy flow.

Eames plasic molded eiffel chairs add the modern element to the coppery toned, warm eat-in kitchen. This beautiful loft space was originally a toy store and has now been transformed into a functional, inviting home.

Mother's Day Must!
Mother's Day is quickly approaching and what mother doesn't love to have a relaxing pampered day at the spa?
This beautifully designed boutique day spa is located in Mumbai, India and was inspired by asian and european design elements, as well as the Turkish Baths, to create an atmosphere of tranquility and relaxation.
The designer states, "the layout of the spa has been simply segregated with the more public functions like waiting, gallery and meditation spaces on the lower level with the individual massage therapy rooms located at the upper level. Focus on texture and lighting helps to create an environment which appeals to the six senses and accentuates the feeling of getting pampered; the essence of visiting a day spa!" KdnD Studio

Function for Every Nook...
Hallways and staircase landings are typically wasted space so why not utilize every square foot of your home and add some unique storage and display cases.
Create an entire reading nook by building a padded window seat, with toss cushions and a reading lamp. A built-in bookcase to house all of your favorite novels finishes off your cozy reading nook.

Rustic Glamour Foyer
My custom rustic console table is complete and has been finished with a medium tone stain to accent the hardwood floors. I wanted my unique mirror to stay the focal point and added a table lamp and a few small simple accessories to glam up the look. Also, every space needs some fresh, spring flowers to add softness and beauty!

Essentials for a Traditional Ensuite
A traditional master bath will always have a classic design style that will withstand the test of time. Classic lines with updated finishes such as a basket weave marble floor tile, a free standing tulip tub and a rounded custom vanity gives the traditional ensuite a designer flair.
